As I was sitting in my sewing room working on one of my quilts, listing to soothing sounds of YouTube music from my computer, I realized how quilting and music seems to go together. OK, I know this is not a new concept, we all know how music and quilting go together, we all listen to it when we quilt, don’t we.
Depending on what I am doing, I love to list to old school sounds, love songs. The kind of music that you slow danced too. Then I will switch up to good old rock-n-roll music to get up out of my sit and dance to while I am ironing seams and bindings. And when you are quilting your quilt the rhythm of the music will just guide your hand and maybe your work.
There is nothing like getting into the grove of piecing and quilting when the house is quite, no one around to distract you, no phones ring off the hook, not having to cook, clean and sew at the same time. You know what I mean, especial those who have demanding family members.
Last night it was Boys II Men, tonight my chose of music was love songs, The Dells, Delfonics, and Stylistics all the greatest hits. When I start cutting up my binning it was Phil Collins – Sussudio, Do You Remember and Easy Lover. Dancing and bobbing to the sounds.
What do you listen to when you quilt?

I like music while I work too. Love the 70's - a great mix of soft to rock in that era. When I FMQ or hand work I like to listen to an Opera. I know - what a difrerence.
ReplyDeleteI'm just a good ole country girl. I listen to a country station on my radio all the time while I sew. I love singing along and really enjoy the time I have to myself.
ReplyDeleteI also listen to music while I sew, clean, etc. etc. My favorite is the 60's rock station here in Las Vegas. I love all the music you mentioned here in your blog. When I fmq I love to have on YouTube relax daily. Since my computer is in one room and I'm in another I hope the neighbors like the music too. It's so soothing that it makes my fmq go so quickly and more smoothly. (I am a beginner at free motion quilting so I need to really relax...lol) I have to tell you how much I love your Jacob's ladder Quilt. Your Grandma Hattie would be proud of it. Btw I pinned your Jacob's Ladder under quilts on my pinterest board....I really do love it. Gingham does seem to be in this year. When I was a child we WORE a lot of gingham. I have always thought that a blue or pink gingham is pretty as a trim on a pillow. Gingham as a give away is so fun. What a great idea to add things like what you are reading and music and anything else that interests you. Can't wait to see what you will come up with next.
ReplyDeleteI listen to audio books while I quilt. Downstairs I always have the stereo on, usually on a jazz station (the dog needs some background noise so he doesn't bark at every little sound -- at least that's my story.)
