Work from Home–Dresdens

I thought I would be going into work today, but the weather was all that great, but was not as bad as everyone thought it would be, so I just worked from home.  I have been on this computer since 10:00 this morning, with short bathroom breaks.  After cutting off from work around 4:30, I hit the 3rd day of the Dresden blog hop.

Looking for the full schedule?

We are looking for fairly bad weather for Monday morning commute to work.  The news is already reporting late arrival, unscheduled leave or tele-working, so I will be tele-working since I am still not that steady on walking with this knee.  I was really hoping to get back to work. NOT!!  I really  was.   So at least I have another day to recoup.

Dare To Dresden–Day Two

daretodresdenbutton

I’m so excited, and I just can't hide it, (Pointer Sisters song in my head).  This is day two of the “Dare To Dresden”, and I cannot be more excited about this.  If I could dance a jig after knee surgery I would.  Day one was most exciting to see all the different versions of Dresden that the participating blog hoppers have made.  Blog Hopping lets you try things that you might not have ever tried before. Thank you Madame Samm and Christine of Quilt Monster Closet for hosting this most fabulous hop.

Now I am most proud of myself for being able to finish my Dresden wall hanging/table runner.  As you know I am one of the leading experts on procrastination, but this time it was not my fault that I had knee surgery just when I was in the creative mood.  Four days after the surgery, I hobbled down to my sewing room with the walker and put my foot to the peddle and worked on it for 4 days and completed it with binding and sleeve and even a label two days early. So here it is:

SAM_2192SAM_2193

I had my stepson Deon to take it out side to take a picture in our first snow of the year.  Below is a closer picture.

SAM_2194SAM_2195

Check out the label.  Wow, I completed, I mean really completed my first blog hop show.  This is really the second, put this is the only quilt finish I have done for a hop.  YAH!!!!

SAM_2199SAM_2196

This is only the 3rd or 4th Dresden I have done, the first two was for the BOM with Crafty and if you want to see them just click here and here.

This is something, I am also working on as soon as I get back into the sewing room in Black and White.

Thank you for stopping by, and please visit the other hoppers today.

Resting Up

clip_image001

Well tomorrow I will be out in the cold to visit the doctor to check out the knee.  I’m not sure if you are getting the clip art, put it is moving, isn't that great.  Hope my knee is moving as good as his is.

I am not sure but I kind of winched by back yesterday so that when I got up this morning I was in pain, so I thought I would take it easy by just sitting in my bedroom with a great back messaging machine and a heating pad and a pain pill.   I was able to just sit and watch T.V. while sewing on my binding, along with working on newsletters, and working from home.  My back is feeling really good now and so is my knee since I have not been up on it much today.

The weather here in D.C. is getting very cold and the temperature is dropping.  We still have not had any snow, put it will be coming and when it does they will be shutting down the city.  We still do not know how to handle a lot of snow.  I am glad I am here in my nice cold/little warm house.

I am ready to hit the bed, not to sleep put to watch more T.V. and read.  I been sitting in this chair since I got up this morning, and my backside is feeling more flatter then it already is.  So I will sign off, on check out some blogs before I hit the sack.

Until tomorrow

Breakfast In Bed No More

Since my knee surgery, Tom has been bring me breakfast in bed.  If it is one thing he can cook is great eggs and toast.  The bacon might have been a little too crispy, the grits a little to stiff and he never washes the pots and pans he uses, but it was nice that he has been here to take care of me.  Even the kids would help out bring me this or that.  Even Darnell, left me some money to order carryout.  Oh what a loving family I have.

I woke up this morning, the house was quiet, I smelled nothing cooking.  My family has deserted me.  For the last couple of days, I have been coming downstairs working on my Dresden blocks, I guess since I was getting around so well they figured I did not need any help doing anything.  I had to fix my own breakfast, which was only coffee and toast.  I guess I will have to fix my only lunch and dinner, which I know they will be happy to have dinner for a change.

Since I am home alone, I washed the birds nest of hair, and how good it feels.  Since no one is home I have to avoid taken a shower since I have one of the old fashion claw tubs the sides are to high to step in, so a birdbath is what I had to take.  I put on clean lounging wear and head downstairs to sandwich my quilt.  Since I cannot show you the quilt yet, below is the piece backing.

SAM_2188SAM_2189SAM_2191

These are the fabrics that I used for my Dresden.  I am soooo happy to finally use up this fabric in anyway possible.  I am also happy that I will have maybe my first completed project for a hop and not just show the flimsy/quilt top.

I have not procrastinated on this project.  I might even have time to do another before the hop beings.

daretodresdenbutton The Dare To Dresden Hop will start this Thursday, Jan. 24th, and I will show minds off on Friday, Jan 25th.  I am so looking forward to seeing what everyone has created.

Well, I guess it is time for me to hit the sewing room.  I was hoping that someone will come home to feed me, put I guess I am on my own.

I Have A Winner!! The Great Escape

Yes, bloggers, I have finally got a winner and finally decide what the gift will be.  Yes, isn’t  great I am still procrastinating.  Ok, Ok, the winner is #33 Joan of Moosestash Quilting with her comment:

“What a fun start to my morning. I just had to laugh at your post. No matter if you procrastinate or not, you have come up with a delightful quiltie! I just have to follow to see what your up to next! Smile

I have informed her of her win, and have sent her a $20 Gift Certificate from Sew Lux Fabric & Gifts, and if you have not checked out their line of fabrics and notions, stop on by.

Now for the Great Escape:

image

I could not take it any longer, I had to escape the bedroom.  Other then working from home, all I did was catch up on my blog reading, finish reading a 3rd book in a series and take my walker to the bathroom.

 image

So I had Tom, before he left to pick up stuff, to take Mr. Walker downstairs, so when I finished working from home and conference calls I would get out of the sick bed see another part of the house. After I cleaned myself up (my hair looks like a birds nest and as dry as tumbleweed)  I took a walk on the wild side and came down the stairs, no problem.  Now, now, I am not doing to much, the doctor wants me to move around so the knee does not get to stiff and I am not in any pain.  Matter of fact, it feels pretty good.

image

So the first place I go is the kitchen.  Isn't that a nice kitchen? I really like the lay out.  It is not mind, it’s clip art.  Open-mouthed smileBut I have a nice little kitchen.  I had some hamburger in the refrigerator and did not want it so spoil, so I made a meatloaf with half and taco meat with the other.  I did sit down and rest in between.  I also wash up some dishes.   I am such a clean freak, NOT.

Before I have to go back upstairs (to the bathroom), I plan to work on my Dresden project that I started.  Hope it will be ready in time.  My cameras up stairs so no pictures of the process.  With all the water I been drinking, I might not be able to finish a round.

I also brought the bills down to pay, put I don’t feel like getting depressed in paying them.  I am procrastinating in paying them.  I still have a few more days, before they turn off the lights, phone, gas, you think.  I’ll try to do them when I go back upstairs to the other computer.

Well that’s all for now, will blog with you later.

What Do They Put In That Stuff

I like to thank all of you for the prays and well wishes for my knee surgery.  All is well and taken it easy these next couple of days.  Walking from the bed to the bathroom and watching my bodyguards Ms. Jay and Louie at the foot of the bed.

SAM_2171SAM_2174

I must say that I forgot to take my camera out of my bag, put for they put my stuff up before the surgery and did not get a picture of the Doctors and Nurses that were so kind and thoughtful during this time.  By the time I thought about taken pictures, I was just about ready to go in, I forgot I could take pictures with my kindle fire, put did get a picture of my knee.

Camera(11)

To make sure they were doing the right knee, they marked it.  If you have never had to be but to sleep, it just a wonder.  Whatever they put in that stuff that put you to sleep, you wake up and wonder, Have the done the surgery already.  Tom must have been in the room when they brought me back because I found this picture below in the kindle.

Camera(9)

O.K. not a pretty site, I just like to share. And that is my Doctor’s initials on my leg. (MER)

SAM_2169

Getting up the stairs when I got home was a trial, put made it to the room.  All is well and should be able to walk around soon.  I will have time to catch up on the blogs I have missed these last two days and try to get some sewing done when I have the sewing machine brought up stairs.

So I will blog with with you soon.

Still Procrastinating–Who Me - Yah

You know tomorrow (Monday) I will be going in for the in/out knee surgery and have procrastinated in getting things done, like pay the bills (which  I will hit after this post tonight), get things set-up in the bed room so I will not have to ask someone around her to get this or that from my sewing room, and get that gift card for the blog hop “In Your Words” by the 16th.

I am still reading comments from the hop that I have not gotten to everyone, but I would like to thank you all for visiting and leaving your comments.

I went back to work on Wednesday so that I could make sure everything I needed to do was done before the surgery and to bring home some work to do.  We had an office retreat the last two days (Thursday and Friday) a the Navy Yard, I was so tired when I got home I just fell into bed so  I did not get to post anything or read any thing, I still need to catch up on all the “In Your Words” blog posts.

This is really starting the New Year off on being behind on every thing.  I did start working on my Dresden Quilt and hope it will be ready for the hop.

My kids took be out last night (Saturday) to dinner.  Was that sweet or what.  Tom was there also, put he does not like to take pictures, put I got him with Darnell.

SAM_2165SAM_2164SAM_2162

Well, I got to get myself together here, read a little more blogs, pay the bills, and get set up in the bed room.  So until tomorrow dear reads.

I Got A “F” on Crutches

Before I get into my title post, I would just like to say THANK YOU for all the comments I received on my “In Your Words” blog hop.  Don’t you just love hopping along seeing what everyone is doing?  The different words that make you say, yah, that is just like me.  I found out that there are a lot of “Procrastinators” out there and I am not alone.  It is a great feeling when you know that others have the same infliction.  This is the start of the Procrastinators Quilting Club.  And being the procrastinator that I am, I still have not look through my stash to see what I will be giving-a-way.  But not to worry, before this hop is over with you will know, it just might be a gift card so you can pick out your own fabric, YAH!!!!!

Don’t forget to check out the other blog hoppers today:

Now to the title post.  I will be going in to the hospital for some in/out knee surgery on Monday.  Boo.  I have been having problems with it for sometime, and during the Thanksgiving holiday I have had fluid and a shots twice and they have not done any good.  After just walking half a block I am in pain and cannot bend the knee, and trying to go to the bathroom (lets just say, I have not missed the stool yet, put have almost falling off).
Today, I went in for my postop work, which included being trained to walk with crutches.  That just was not going to work for me, not enough upper body or arm strength to walk with the dame things.
crutches
Hell, just get me home and put me to bed, I don’t plan on going anywhere.  I am just hoping that the guys around will at least through me some food upstairs, since I do not plain to be walking around too soon.  Not sure how long I will be off the leg, put I decided to go back to work today (I was to be off until the 10th), so I can collect some work to do at home.
Since I could not walk with the crutches, they decided that I might be able to work with the walker.
SAM_2152
Yes, that is the walker.  My mother has the matching set.  When my son came home and saw it, the first thing that came out of his mouth was “You are not going anywhere with me with that thing”.  You are not an old women.”,  I might not be an old women, but my body is breaking down.  I should have some great funnies to tell after this surgery.
Watch out check out the new wheels.  Another problem with this surgeryA_Colorful_Cartoon_Elderly_Woman_Walking_ is that I might not be able to sew, since it is my right knee, will have to check with the doctor on this, so that means I will have to speed up the time to get my Dresden blocks done.  Marathon quilting on the way.  I will most likely miss my Guild meeting put hoping I will not miss my Bee meeting.  (Charlene, clear out the back seat of the car,  I might have to lay across the seat.)  So I plan to do a lot of cooking this weekend, just so I have something to eat in the house, those boys cannot cook and hopefully they will not eat up everything I cook.
Happy blog hopping

Day 2 of In Your Words Blog Hop

inyourwordsmallWelcome to my blog. I like to thank Madame Samm of Sew We Quilt and Linda of Buzzing& Bumbling for giving us our first blog hop of the New Year.

This hop was all about words, something that will give a little more insight to who I am as a quilter. The words that popped into my head were many, but what stuck out most was PROCRASTINATOR. Yes people, I am a procrastinator, I know it is hard to believe that I postpone doing something especially as a regular practice when it comes to quilting, but there you have it.

I like to really think of it as being a great thinker.

The-gorilla_-the-thinkerI plan out what I want to do, find the fabrics I want to work with, and change my mine in the last minute. The other words that I have chosen is “SLOW”and “NO TIME”. Slow because I like to take my time in doing a good job. No time because I have procrastinated too long to get the dam thing finish.

So in saying that, here is what I will be hanging on my wall in the sewing room to remind me of my short comings.  SAM_2150SAM_2144SAM_2147SAM_2149SAM_2148
Over the word “PROCRASTINATE” are books, I love to read and before Kindle I had boxes of them. Now with the Kindle I have over 150 books that I have read, and I only had the Kindle for about a year in a half. For Christmas the kids brought me a Kindle HD Fire, now I am stuck playing the game Temple Run. Now you know what I have been doing instead of quilting.

By the way, as I was look through my Kindle to see what books I have been reading, I realized they are all paranormal, (vampires, werewolves and other creatures of the night).  Over to your right is my Dresden Clock, just in time for the Do You Dare to Dresden blog hop starting January 24th. Click on my side bar for more information on that. This is only the second Dresden I have done, no make it the third. I will give you more detail on this in the blog hop.

And last, but not least the sewing machine. It represents my love of sewing (just wish that I got a new one for Christmas), but I will be getting one for my birthday next month, if I have to buy it myself, the hell with the Fiscal Cliff, I will find the funds.

Now I will have a giveaway, I just need time to look through my stash to see what I might have to give away, or it might me a gift card. I will let you know by tomorrow and you will have until the end of this hop to leave a comment. Also, you have a second chance to win if you are a follower, so leave a second comment if you are following me or if you are just following me. How cool is
that.

thCAKC971UWell, I have to run and think of the fabrics I will be using for the Dresden Hop, It will take some thinking. I might even have it finished before it starts, I can only hope.     Here is the list for todays Hop.
