Day 2 of In Your Words Blog Hop

inyourwordsmallWelcome to my blog. I like to thank Madame Samm of Sew We Quilt and Linda of Buzzing& Bumbling for giving us our first blog hop of the New Year.

This hop was all about words, something that will give a little more insight to who I am as a quilter. The words that popped into my head were many, but what stuck out most was PROCRASTINATOR. Yes people, I am a procrastinator, I know it is hard to believe that I postpone doing something especially as a regular practice when it comes to quilting, but there you have it.

I like to really think of it as being a great thinker.

The-gorilla_-the-thinkerI plan out what I want to do, find the fabrics I want to work with, and change my mine in the last minute. The other words that I have chosen is “SLOW”and “NO TIME”. Slow because I like to take my time in doing a good job. No time because I have procrastinated too long to get the dam thing finish.

So in saying that, here is what I will be hanging on my wall in the sewing room to remind me of my short comings.  SAM_2150SAM_2144SAM_2147SAM_2149SAM_2148
Over the word “PROCRASTINATE” are books, I love to read and before Kindle I had boxes of them. Now with the Kindle I have over 150 books that I have read, and I only had the Kindle for about a year in a half. For Christmas the kids brought me a Kindle HD Fire, now I am stuck playing the game Temple Run. Now you know what I have been doing instead of quilting.

By the way, as I was look through my Kindle to see what books I have been reading, I realized they are all paranormal, (vampires, werewolves and other creatures of the night).  Over to your right is my Dresden Clock, just in time for the Do You Dare to Dresden blog hop starting January 24th. Click on my side bar for more information on that. This is only the second Dresden I have done, no make it the third. I will give you more detail on this in the blog hop.

And last, but not least the sewing machine. It represents my love of sewing (just wish that I got a new one for Christmas), but I will be getting one for my birthday next month, if I have to buy it myself, the hell with the Fiscal Cliff, I will find the funds.

Now I will have a giveaway, I just need time to look through my stash to see what I might have to give away, or it might me a gift card. I will let you know by tomorrow and you will have until the end of this hop to leave a comment. Also, you have a second chance to win if you are a follower, so leave a second comment if you are following me or if you are just following me. How cool is
that.

thCAKC971UWell, I have to run and think of the fabrics I will be using for the Dresden Hop, It will take some thinking. I might even have it finished before it starts, I can only hope.     Here is the list for todays Hop.

  13. You could have been describing me!! I worry so much about the details that I don't accomplish very much. I am trying to change that this year - lofty goal :-) Thanks for sharing and for the giveaway chance!

  15. Many of us procrastinate. Sometimes my best ideas come at the very last minute! Your quilt is lovely!

  16. Great words! especially 'procrastinate'!!

  17. I think quilters often procrastinate on other things so we can spend more time quilting. lol. Great project--I love your sewing machine. What type are you getting for your birthday? I just broke down and bought myself a new (used) machine that will be for my birthday, Mother's Day, anniversary, Christmas, etc. this year! So much fun! So little time to do it!

    ReplyDelete
  18. I can drive myself around the bend trying to make some decisions, especially when it comes to quilting. Fabric choices can be a nightmare and then there's the actual quilting of a project. It would explain my stack of half finishes ;D
    Thank you for the chance

  23. I love your fabric sewing machine block. Looks like my treadle! I'm a procrastinator because I over-think things. I need to get over my drive for perfection, let go and just be. Those "free" moments don't come often enough... I need to think about how to nurture those "free" moments so I can do less procrastinating.

Makes sense? Big hugs! I say buy the new machine. You're worth it, baby!

  24. Thank you for sharing your wonderful inspiration, words and story. Without procrastination we would end up with no UFO's - just unacceptable - LoL Judy C

    ReplyDelete
  38. I am such a procrastinator too! Instead of working on my project for the hop I am looking at others, I must finish! Great word!

    ReplyDelete
  39. While I can not afford to procrastinate, sometimes it is hard to tell the difference =) I also take my time making projects because I like to have everything in one place picked out and ready to go. I also have no time since I am a full time student with a 3.7 GPA. So sometimes you have to procrastinate. I call it constantly re-prioritizing. I'm sure whatever you chose for the giveaway will be lovely.

  40. Such wonderful ideas! Love your work.

  64. Hee, if I had joined in this particular hop, I think PROCRASTINATE would have to have been my work also! My favorite quote is, "Why do it today if you can put it off til tomorrow?" Therefore, you know I love your quilt!!!

    ReplyDelete
  65. Ha ha! I can totally relate to your words! I am slow, a procrastinator and love to read...

    ReplyDelete

  73. If I were to have my own blog, The Slow Quilter, would have been my first choice of name!!! I AM a slow quilter - and somewhat of a procastinator, too. Besides, I love to read. Maybe your my twin!! lol Loved your little quilt; it says it all.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Rosemary B here: LOL you make me laugh. I think we are all slow and a huge bunch of procrastinators at some things.
    I absolutely adore your creation.
This makes me think of my mother. She lives in Annapolis and she is 90 today!! (hubbs and I are going to see her tomorrow) She hates reading. she says reading is a selfish activity. After you are done you have nothing to show for it. LOLOL of course I disagree with her but.... she is 90 and I chose the battles. I do not want to be responsible for her throwing a clot in anger hahaha
Anyway, she used to sew needlepoint, cross stitch make lace, dresses, everything. She made everything! And she thinks making stuff is better than reading. "You have something to show for it" she would say.
I do not have my own sewing blog, but if I did, mine would be The Space Cadet! :-P
Thank you so much for sharing your marvelous creativity, Felicia
Even if you are slow, you know you are loved <3

  79. Seems I have been poking along to and taking my time gathering fabrics and supplies. These things do take time but it is better to be sure about those decisions than be sorry.

  80. Slow but sure. As a procrastinator I'm sure you have lots of company and I'm one of them!

    ReplyDelete
  81. Hi meet your twin sister, once a friend gave me a turtle key chain because she said I was like a turtle slow and plodding but always reaching the finish line. I have a Kobo (like a kindle) and I read a lot to so that does take me away from quilting even though I love it. Your wall hanging is so cute and will look wonderful in your sewing room, reminding you that you do get things done.

    ReplyDelete
  82. I really like your wall hanging. I need it to go in
my sewing room, because it fits me to a "T".Slowly, but surely, things do get done.I am the type of person that must go with my first chose of fabrics to use in a quilt. If I don't then I will become unsure about what to use.And it will take me forever to make up my mind.
I love to read also. I have three bookcases full of books right now that I haven't read. My friends give me more whenever I see them.So I usually read about 5 a month.
Thanks for the giveaway.(Love your blog. You make me laugh!).

  93. I think I might be a lost sister from another mother. I tend to prograstinate too. Actually years ago I did a speech in college and the topic was STOP PROCASTINATING, that parking signs weren't parking signs at all but motivational notes for people to stop procrastinating. Got an A+ on that one. lol

    Nice tutorial, thanks! Jane

  96. Slow and steady wins the race. Great post

    ReplyDelete
  97. I had to beome a follower - sounds like me - the slow quilter. Seems like I make a million quits - in my head. I just don't seem to have the energy to get out of my chair or pick up the needle and stitch and yes, I'm a perfectionist. My seam ripper and I are best friends. I recently made friends with a lady who turned 90 in October. She wanted to see a quilt I had made. Well, that was a challenge because I have given away most I have made. I took three to her that I do have in various stages of "finish." She looked at them and told me that I am a perfectionist - that every seam has to join perfectly! Well, YES! She is a get it done kind of lady. There's nothing wrong with that either, but not for me!

    ReplyDelete
  98. I love love love your quilt. I love the sewing machine and adore the Dresden clock. You are clever! Glad you like your Kindle - I have one but would rather have a physical book in my hands.

    ReplyDelete
  99. I'm not a procrastinator, I'm a great thinker! Yes! Love your quilt. I couldn't get a book for book club so I got the audiobook instead. Now I love them. I can get so much reading done while driving, cooking, sewing etc. Jus sayin'.

  100. Love your words! We all procrastinate, just some of us don't won't admit it :)

    ReplyDelete
  101. Ahh please do not be so hard on yourself! The other side of the coin is you wait until you have all your ducks in a row, and then you get done what needs to get done. You are thorough and work better under pressure. See? hehe. Be Positive. With that all said and done, your wallhanging is beautiful! I love your sewing machine! You did an awesome job and thank you for sharing your project with us.

  120. Your humor is a great lesson for me as I'm going through tests for a possible surgery. Hope you have a good recovery. When my mother went through knee surgery, a friend who is a nurse loaned us a machine that iced my mother's knee periodically as she sat in her recliner. No messy ice packs, tracking time, or tote/fetch dependency. Then, going through physical therapy (no procrastination) really put her back on her feet walking without pain. She did use her crutches instead of a walker.
