Secret Quilt–Mug Rug-Where is that Fabric?

I am happy to say that I am almost finished the challenge quilt.  I have been sewing all day and have sandwich the quilt.  Not sure how I plan to quilt it yet, but after putting it together most of the day, I did not want to do anything wrong to it so I am just waiting to quilt it.  The binding and sleeve are already ready for the quilt.

SAM_1051 I don’t think the binding will give the quilt away.  I just love this wrapping the binding on a tub and sitting it on a thread pole, keeping it off the floor.

After finishing the quilt top, I had to find a backing which I knew what I wanted to use.  I brought this fabric in Boston about 2 or 3 years ago when I went up to visit my son.  Now you know that being quilters we all know what we have in our stash, no matter how long we have it.  We remember the fabric.  I know I saw it somewhere.  I had to look through everything.

I looked up stairs, down stairs, sewing room, and boxes.  Yah, it is a mess.  I did not find it, put did find something else to use.  Does it really look like I need to be going on a fabric shopping trip in October?  Always can use new fabric.

Family Day is next Saturday, so I still have time to work on it next week.  Why next week?  I have a very busy weekend.  Tomorrow (Friday) I bowl and will not get home until after 12:00 and Saturday morning I have to run to the church for a New Members Breakfast that I am in charge of, but will have to leave by 10:00 to get the bus over to me girlfriend’s mother house by 10:30, we are going to Atlantic City, and we all know that Sunday is the day for the Lord.  So I guess I will get back to the quilt on Monday.

I made my first mug rug today.  I needed a break from the quilt.  I plan to give it to my supervisor.  I even quilted it, a first.  Good way to use up all those semi-small fabrics you not sure what you want to do with.

So you might not hear from me until Monday, that is, if I have something to blog about.

Half Square Triangles and Gladys Knight

What does half square triangles have to do with Gladys Knight, nothing at all.  Gladys Knight was in concert at my job today opening up the Spring Concert in the mall at the Ronald Regan Building.  These pictures were taken by one of my co-workers.

There were so many people, I had to take pictures from my window on the 4th floor.

You can really see the stage and hear the music very well.  It was a great start to the summer, the weather was mild and sunny. It seems everyone had a great time.

As you know Craftsy BOM is dealing with half square triangles and scant 1/4” inch seams, and it so happens that the secret block that I am working on also has half square triangles, quarter squares and scant 1/4 inch piecing. The quilt will be revealed to you next Saturday night.  Most of you will see it at the Family Day Celebration if you come to North Michigan Park Recreation Center.

I have completed two more blocks today and only have one more to do before I lay it out I also ran out of the fabric I was using).  I must say that I am prod of myself with the precision piecing I have done, all points are matching.  Following the directions and using the scant 1/4 inch seam left the block quite near the 12 1/2 square with little to square up.  No matter how much you quilt or piece blocks together it is always gratifying when thing come together perfectly.  Even I cannot wait to see the finish project.

Thou this quilt will not be large, I can see it myself doing a larger scale up in bright colors.  I can not what to see how I will lay it out, I have an idea, I just hope it works or I can figure it out.

So until tomorrow

What’s Going On

Well May is over and June is starting, the weather is rainy with thunder storms in the making.  It looks like server weather with maybe a tornado or very strong winds.  We already have flooding in Maryland, but does not look like much here in D.C.  Since I bowl in Maryland, (PG County) I have not heard anything server there yet.  Already I am having cable problems with the station in and out, and as you know most likely the internet will be out too. So I will have to see if I will be going bowling tonight.

Another good thing is that Tom and Daon (my stepson) was able to get the balls out of the drain in the basement before this rainstorm.  Hopefully this will fix the flooding problem we were having in the basement.

May for MeThe May 4 Me BINGO is still going on until someone gets blackout.  I am like 4 blocks away, but I know that someone most likely are just one block away from blackout.  Like I said, it was a fun May 4 Me and I enjoyed it.

Craftsy BOM started to day and we will be doing two blocks, the Greek Cross and the Octagon Block.  I have not completed my April English piecing or even started on the May blocks, but I do plan to catch up this month.

I am still working on the secret blocks for my quilt challenge in June for the Family Day.  You will be able to see it around the 3rd Sunday in June.  So I will be coming home to try to do a block every day.  Might have time after church Sunday to get at least two more done.

Tomorrow, I have choir rehearsal in the morning, and later that evening I will be teaching my girlfriend beginning quilting.  That should be fun, since she will be buying some of the fabric that I am not using.  I need some funds for my Atlantic City bus trip next Saturday.

Well my front porch is finally finished, I am out of money, so the painting and scrapping of the posts we will have to do until some lucky funds fall in my lap to hire someone else to do it.

The cushions on the swing bench have to be covered and the swing has to be painted also.  Ace Hardware is giving away a free quart of paint around Father’s Day.  It might be enough to complete the painting of the frame of the porch so that is a saver.  The grill is coming off the porch.  We already have one in the back yard, so why in the world do you need one on the front porch.  MEN!!!! You have to love them or kick them out.

Good news for me is that I see another job I can apply for that just open up today.  I have until June 11th to get my resume together to fit the job.  I am hoping to get it since I just found out that two of my co-workers will be leaving soon, one has converted over for Foreign Service and will be station in Ethiopia and the other one will be moving to London for her job.  I fell like I am being lift behind.  But it is up to me to get a move on.

Well not sure if I will be going bowling yet, so I will go down and cut my secret blocks and might even have time to sew one.

Until Tomorrow
