It is day 3 of the See You In September blog hop and it is my turn. First I would like to thank two special ladies for planning this most exciting hop, Mdm. Samm of Sew We Quilt and Shari of Living with Purpose. I like to say with the hops, I do not think I would have gotten anything done this summer, with all the running around and family ups and downs. It gave me a way to escape all the every day problems.
My first finish for the summer was a quilt that I have dedicated to my grandma Hattie E. Green.
She was 105 when she passed. That is me in my early 20’s. Her favorite song to sing was Jacob’s Ladder. In a early post I talked about it, but it was just on the planning board with pieces I had started. Without this hop I do not think it would have been finish for awhile.
Here is my Jacob’s Ladder, quilt by a local quit shop Tomorrow's Treasures. I still need to add a label, then once I have my bedroom painted and the new bed put up (Yes, the bed is another walking toilet story). I will hang this on the wall to remind me of her.
For my second quilt I used those lovely Kona solids I have been collecting for sometime. I got the pattern from one of the magazines I had around the house. Tom cleaned off the table and I have not been able to find the magazine (I think he threw it out by mistake. Yah). So if anyone remembers this pattern and the creator of this pattern, please let me know, so I can give her the credit. I even quilted it myself, since it was just simple straight lines. LOVING MODEREN QUILTING. I think is is call Petals, it will make a nice wall hang or table runner.
Now, I have never used gingham, put it is a lot of fabrics I have not used. After seeing some of the gingham projects on this hop, I am thinking get more gingham.
I have two lovely ladies, Jackie and Marjorie from my office to model my creation, a gingham apron. I use a small colorful jelly roll that I got and white two inch strips
Now for the give-a-way. All you have to do is leave a comment and let me know if you are a follower or a new follower. You have until September 12 to leave your comment and I will post on September 13th the winner. So what is the give-a-way. Well what else, but a layer cake of RBD Gingham and a surprise in the package.

Jacob's Ladder is on my to do list and your is lovely, what a great way to remember your special grand mother. I need a new apron, the colours just make me smile when I look at your apron.
ReplyDeleteLovely projects! I am a new follower via GFC.
ReplyDeleteFelicia, sewing and quilting for me is an ideal "escape" from everyday routine and problems and discussions, not always easy to "hide" in my sewing space, but I need it also as my mental yoga. You did wonderful things, the fabrics in your ladder quilt is GREAT! And your aprons (and of course your models) are so full of positive energy, I like them very much!
ReplyDeleteOh, what lovely projects. A lovely tribute to your Grandma...and a pretty picture you shared! Such a pretty table topper. As for that apron now...my first thought was Joseph's coat of many colours. My guess is this would have been "Josephine's apron of many colours"...I just love it! And your models have just the appropriate amount of sassiness to pull it off at the office LOL I will be continuing to follow you...watch out *wink*
ReplyDeleteI am pretty sure I follow but my computer crashed and am down to using my phone and it hard to look without losing my place. really love the table runner. My grandmother just passed away last year and she was100. Hi Felicia, I started following you today with Bloglovin, and after reading about your grandmother living till she was 105, wanted to mention, that I lost my dad last year shortly after his 104th. birthday. It doesn't matter how long they live, it's still a devastating loss and I miss him every single day. The Jacob's Ladder is so pretty and a fitting tribute to your grandmother. I am new to your blog. Some very nice projects!
ReplyDeleteWhat is a "walking toilet story?" I love expressions and there meanings. My dad used to say after dinner to "red up the table." People think I'm crazy when I use that expression. I love your Jacob's ladder. Immediately I thought of a lady at guild. At a retreat, she was working on this pattern. I wonder if she finished it. She was found dead in her home. She had stepped down two months earlier from heading up our charity quilt program. It's funny what memories quilts can elicit. Your quilt is beautiful and now I have one on my to-do list. Her quilt was scrappy and not nearly as appealing as yours. I love yours. I like two color quilts. I love the fabric you used for your second color. While it's two color, it has more POP! What a great idea! Your Petal table topper is ideal and your quilting is phenomenal. I miss I had the courage to try quilting. It was on my to-do list to practice this year and I haven't done it once. And your gingham apron is adorable. Thanks to your models. I like that you used the kitchen area of your office to snap the photos. I am a new follower and thanks for your generosity in the giveaway. Someone is going to be thrilled. Thanks for participating. I wish I could accomplish as you - The Slow Quilter - lol.
ReplyDeleteWhat fun!!! I follow you via Bloglovin'!

I love gingham. kthurn@bektel.com

ReplyDeleteJacob's ladder--a beautiful quilt with a beautiful and sentimental story! I have not used gingham either, as it used to be a poly/cotton blend of fabric that would not hold up well to much usage. I think time has improved the fabric quality!
