In The Mail - Bow Ties & What's Going On

Now that things seem to be getting back to normal around here.  More since Tom is home (he is really in the way).  I think at one point that he really had to think about what he was going to do now, since his mother and father passed.  For the last 2 or 3 years he was almost their care giver and with them 24/7 when they were hospitalized.  Now he is home more and starting to move things around.  More on that later.

Anyway, I am get some things straighten out that I have been “SLOW” getting out.  I had some packages I needed to mail out to some of my blog followers which I did yesterday.  They should be getting them shortly, and yes that is my junky office desk.  One of the packages, the big one I forgot to add a note and got so busy at work I did not have time to send it.  So I am sure the package will get  there before the note, but she will know it is from me (I hope).  I am hoping that they ladies will share their gifts with all of you.  If not, well to each their own.

mail 1mail 2

Also I have gotten in a little sewing since the Black Cat Crossing blog hop.  A young man who interned with us was leaving our office.  One of the ladies asked if I could make him a bow tie with African fabric.  So here are the bow ties.

SAM_0205SAM_0206SAM_0207SAM_0208

Andrew can really tie a Bow, the bows on the bottom were for the ladies in the office to were in their hair.

My office buddy and friend Tracy saw them and asked if I could make her some with music fabric for function her uncle was having.  A Jazz Bar part in a carpet warehouse.

jaz barmusic bow ties

Here is Tracy in her Music Bow Tie.  I was sitting down when I took this picture.  Here cousin fixed me a drink and I think I was a little cross eye.

I am also picking up the knitting needles.  My first project is a pair of socks.  Since I have seen some of the quilting bloggers talking about their nice warm socks, I want a pair for myself.  Seems like you really need to know someone to get a pair of home made socks these days.  Even some of my close quilting friends are knitting these days from socks to sweaters, to shawls.  If knitting needles do not work out for me, I can always crochet me a pair.

So that Is all for now.  For those ladies who I hope is still reading by blog.  Let me know when you have posted about you gifts.

Black Cat Crossing Blog Hop Day 1 Give-A-Way

Maywoodmdmsamm copy

This is Day One of the Black Cat Crossing Blog Hop and before I begin I would like to give a shot out to our host and wicked cheer leaders Wendy Christian of Why Knot Kwilt and our every loving mother of Blog Hops Mdm Samm.  Thank you both for allowing me to participate in this blog hop.

The fabric line for this hop was Black Cat Crossing by Maywood Studios.  It is a great line of fabric for the ghouls who love to make anything.

Being the every Slow Quilter and Procrastinator that I am, I have just finished my project tonight, at least just one.  After our last hop, I took a little break to work on my  bathroom.  In the process of this break with sad news Tom’s mother passed ( his father pass just this July), so my life was a little upside down from there with no time to sew.  I felt it was too late to ask to be put back to a later date to post so I rush in to finish at least one of the projects I was think of doing.

So let us get this show on the road. Here is my project the Tammy bag for all seasons and uses.  On the back and front, or front and back is my black cat sporting the bling for  the season

Winner Contact–Trouble Solved–Next Hop–Girlfriend Road Trip

909360

I have been contacted from the winner of the Rush Hour Blog Hop and it is Susan Newsom of Grand Rapids, MI. Thank you again Susan for getting back to me, I will be mailing this out to you by the weekend.

This morning the problem with the toilet was not solved.  Backed up again and I had a meeting this morning.  Tom call the Plummer back to see what the  problem was, not planning to pay another cent on this.  Had to snake a little bit deeper, hopefully the problem is solved.  Even fixed the flush valve, so really do not need the one I ordered, but will keep it for replacement.  Never know when it will break and need it.

Maywoodmdmsamm copy

Black Cat Crossing is the next blog hop that is coming up.  October 20th will be my day.  The fabric is from Maywood Studio.  I had and idea what I wanted to do for this hop, put as I sit here looking at the fabric I have gotten, I might change it.  I best not look at it too long or I will be rushing to get something put together.

Me and some of my girlfriends are heading down to Fredericksburg, MD this Friday to the Original Sew & Quilting Expo.  Maybe I will find some more of the fabric there to add to what I already have, we will see.

Well that is all I have to report right now so see you latter this week.

Winner of Blog Hop - Toilet Backup

909360

I have a winner for my giveaway on the Rush Hour Blog Hop.  As soon as she gets back to me with her information I will share the news with all of you.  Again I hope you all enjoyed this hop, I thought is was great.

On another note,  This morning I notice that it seem we were having problems with the bathroom toilet backing up and going into the tub.  I had Tom to call the Plummer to take a look at it.

It was more of a problem then either of us thought, after sneaking the tub and the toilet which was all together $300 (hit my fabric money pretty hard) the flush valve spring was broken.  Because this is a special type of mechanism it can only be ordered.  The piece is only $14.00 and will take a week on the fastest delivery they have.

I feel like flushing me down the sewer.  I will be going to the basement during the day and once I in bed at night and have to go I will have to do it the old fashion way.  Not even going to write about it.

Flushing through the week

RUSH HOUR IS HERE Day One

RushHOURtagbutton_zps5299c169

Yes, the Rush Hour Blog Hop is here and now.  And let me tell you I really was rushing.  With the change in the weather cold coming on, I was falling fast and did not think I was going to finish in time.  But like the slow person I am, I rush to the finish line and made it on time.

Before we get to my rush hour creation I would like to thank as always Madm Samm who always seem to have something for us to do, and Carol from Just Let Me Quilt who will be cheering us on every step of the way.

This hop is about rush hour, and not just the fabric.  Studio E came out with some great rush hour fabric, but we did not really have to use it just as long as the fabrics were red, white, black or  gray.  I was lucky enough to get my hands of some of the fabric and used it for my creation and here it is.  My Rush Hour Weave bag.

bag 1

When you are rushing around trying to get out of the house, you need to grab that rush hour bag and head to the bus stop for work, or to the hair dresser (which I really need to go), or to the fabric store for your next fix on fabric.   This pattern is call Breezy Weave Bags by Aunties Two.  It is has instructions for a small and large bag.   It is not a hard bag to put together once you weave in the strips and I enjoyed making it and will make another sometime soon.

I think my biggest problem was sewing in the side gussets but I seem to have muddle through it with flying colors.

bag4

bag 1-2bag 3 - Copybag 5 - Copy

As you can see from above it also had to inside pockets great to carry my Kindle and phone.  It also had magnetic snap closure, which I forgot to get a picture of.  I am become fever delirious sorry.

I tried to get some better pictures, put with this cold and fever I have, I could only get this done.   Oh baby I am fading fast and ready to hit the bed and take more pills.

I do have a give away and you only have to leave a comment.  I have a 1/2 yard of Rush hour fabric to give away.  I will pull a name at the end of the hop Sept. 30th.  So Good luck on the give away and don’t forget to visit the other hoppers today and tomorrow.

Found the Magazine–Up Coming Hop

SAM_0140

I wanted to give created to the designer who created this pattern for this Petals quilt, which can be a wall hanging or table runner.  I could not find the magazine during the “See you in September Hop” (I thought that Tom had trashed it by mistake).  But I found it near the ironing board.  This quilt was featured Fons & Porter’s Easy Quilts, Summer 2013 magazine.  The designer was Corey Yoder and she also has a blog  http://www.littlemissshabby.com/.  There are other Petals quilts on her blog.  Hope you hop on over a give her a look see.

I am glad I was able to find the magazine and share this with all of you.

RushHOURtagbutton_zps5299c169

Yes another Hop is on its way.  Rush Hour.  Boy do I have to rush to get this project done.  I think I am coming down with a cold and have not been able to work on my project much this week.  I am hoping to get it finish this weekend.  This hope is being cheered on by Carol Swift of Just Let Me Quilt and of course Mdm Samm.  I will be showing my project on the first day (wish it was at least two or 3 days latter), but I will work on it the rest of this week and maybe get it finished.

While, I am going to take to aspirin for my fever, and make some hot tea and lemon to head off this cold.

Have a great quilting week

It doesn't matter how long they live, it's still a devastating loss and I miss him every single day. The Jacob's Ladder is so pretty and a fitting tribute to your grandmother. Scotch with 2 drops of water–Day 7 of See You In September Blog Hop

Something to make your morning laugh, the on to the hop to see wonder creations.

A lady goes to the bar on a cruise ship
And orders a Scotch with two drops of water. As the bartender gives her the drink she says' I'm on this cruise to celebrate my 80th birthday and it's today.'
The bartender says 'Well, since it's your birthday, I'll buy you a drink.
In fact, this one is on me.'
As the woman finishes her drink
The woman to her right says
'I would like to buy you a drink, too.'
The old woman says
'Thank you.
Bartender, I want a Scotch with two drops of water.'
'Coming up' says the bartender
As she finishes that drink,
The man to her left says
'I would like to buy you one, too.'
The old woman says
'Thank you.
Bartender, I want another Scotch with two drops of water.'
'Coming right up' the bartender says.
As he gives her the drink,he says
'Ma'am, I'm dying of curiosity.
Why the Scotch with only two drops of water?'
The old woman replies
'Sonny, when you're my age,
You've learned how to hold your liquor...
Holding your water, however, is a whole other issue.'

Here is the list of participant in Day 7 of See You In September.  I am sure you will enjoy all the creative work done over the summer and things made with RB Gingham.

Not Enough Fabric##@@@!!! Day 4 See You In September

It has been a busy weekend for me, and after church I decided to get started on my next blog hop project.  I have this pattern that I got early this year at one of the quilt shows.  Reading the instructions and the fabrics needs  for the project I was ready to go.

After cutting up my first fabric I realized I did not have enough (or did I?).  I was upset that I would have to order another 1/2 year of each fabric.  After ordering the fabric, I went back to check the instructions and the fabric.  Now I am pretty mad at myself at this point.  I realized that the second fabric I had for the project was more then enough and was the main fabric in the first place not the one that I cut.

So the moral of this story is “Read twice, lay out all your fabric before cutting, and remember what you are doing.”  I will not cancel the order of the fabric, I will use it for a give away, you will just love it, and then again I might just mess up again and need to use it.  We Will see.

buttonseeyouinseptember_zps672b6bca Well tomorrow or today (when every you are reading this) is Day four of the See You In September Blog Hop.  Last week was a great week of summer projects and finishes.  And we cannot forget all the great RBD gingham projects.  So here is the list of Day 4 of the hop.

Day 3 See You In September Blog Hop And Give Away

buttonseeyouinseptember_zps672b6bca

It is day 3 of the See You In September blog hop and it is my turn.  First I would like to thank two special ladies for planning this most exciting hop,  Mdm. Samm of Sew We Quilt and Shari of Living with Purpose.  I like to say with the hops, I do not think I would have gotten anything done this summer, with all the running around and family ups and downs.  It gave me a way to escape all the every day problems.

My first finish for the summer was a quilt that I have dedicated to my grandma Hattie E. Green.

gradma 3

She was 105 when she passed.  That is me in my early 20’s.  Her favorite song to sing was Jacob’s Ladder.  In a early post I talked about it, but it was just on the planning board with pieces I had started.  Without this hop I do not think it would have been finish for awhile.

Here is my Jacob’s Ladder, quilt by a local quit shop Tomorrow's Treasures.  I still need to add a label, then once I have my bedroom painted and the new bed put up (Yes, the bed is another walking toilet story).  I will hang this on the wall to remind me of her.

Jacobs Ladder 1

Jacobs lader 2

For my second quilt I used those lovely Kona solids I have been collecting for sometime.  I got the pattern from one of the magazines I had around the house.  Tom cleaned off the table and I have not been able to find the magazine (I think he threw it out by mistake. Yah).  So if anyone remembers this pattern and the creator of this pattern, please let me know, so I can give her the credit.  I even quilted it myself, since it was just simple straight lines.  LOVING MODEREN QUILTING.  I think is is call Petals, it will make a nice wall hang or table runner.

Flower Petal 2

Flower petals 1

savebutton_zpsdf528c88

Now, I have never used gingham, put it is a lot of fabrics I have not used.  After seeing some of the gingham projects on this hop, I am thinking get more gingham.

I have two lovely ladies, Jackie and Marjorie from my office to model my creation, a gingham apron.  I use a small colorful jelly roll that I got and white two inch strips

Apron JackieApron MarjorieApron

Now for the give-a-way.  All you have to do is leave a comment and let me know if you are a follower or a new follower.  You have until September 12 to leave your comment and I will post on September 13th the winner.  So what is the give-a-way.  Well what else, but a layer cake of RBD Gingham and a surprise in the package.
