Snow, Breakfast & Embroidery

More snow in D.C., government closed. I know you might be tired of the snow so no pictures. Tom fixed me a big breakfast, since I did not get out of bed until ten. He must have been hungry and could not wait to see if I was coming down to fix anything. I would have had a bowl of cereal.

Since I was home today, I thought to get started on my 10th Anniversary exchange blocks. All blocks have to have the number 10 in them, and since I just to lazy to do applique (which I am not a great fan of, but will do) I decided to do some embroidery blocks.

As you can see I have a sleep theme going on, with a little Sun Bonnet Sue. I think I have about 12 or 13 blocks to make by our April meeting, so I might do about 3 each along with the spool of thread I stitched out earlier this week. I do have an applique block I want to do, 10 bottles of beer on the wall. Just trying to see how to do 10 bottles of beer on the wall or just maybe one bottles since the other have already have fallen. Or make the bottle look like it is falling off a wall.

Well, need to clean up my mess an get ready for work tomorrow.

Quilt Finish, I Want To Cry- Burnt Fries

I have finally finish the quilt, and I just want to cry. Why, because I washed the darn thing and some of the signature blocks faded. Other than that the quilt came out great. One of my church friends pick it up and will go over the words with a permanent marker. This is what happens when people do not follow instructions, even when you hand them the pen to use.

Now it is time to get started on another project. My Quilting Bee is celebrating its 10th Anniversary, which was back in November, with exchange blocks. If you follow Eat, Sleep, Quilt with Linda you might have seen some of the blocks she is working on. They are to be 12-1/2” blocks done anyway we want as long as it has the number 10 on it. They are due at our April meeting and I think I have 12 or 14 to make. I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT TO DO ---- HELP. Please send me some suggestions…

Here is one of my ideas that I embroidered. I do not think I can make 14 of these, takes up too much thread, I might just do 3 or 4 and watch them fight over it. So send me suggestions.

While I was reading through some blogs, I forgot I had put the fries on for dinner and burnt them. Now I have to go and make mash potatoes to go with the meal. Can’t do two things at once, at least I did not burn the chicken this time.

The End Is Near

Yes, I am nearing the end of this project. I squared up the quilt, added the sleeve and the binding. Now I can just sit back and relax and hand sew down the binding. Now that is my favorite thing to do when working on a quilt. It is the finishing touch of a project. The last thing to do.

Thou, I monad, about this quilt as I put it together, I feel proud that it will be my master piece. The finished project.

Woes Of A Quilter

Yes, people even The Slow Quilter is having her share of woes. I love making quilts, but I do not like to quilt them, only if they are small. Working on this signature quilt as given me woes. Finally using the fabric I brought at the show for the boarder, I was ready to start quilting it. How do I count the woes:

1. Sandwiching the quilt – since I cannot get on the floor to sandwich the quilt, I have to use the dinning room table, which is not long or wide enough for the quilt, so I have to carefully lay it out, tape it down on one side while the other side hangs off the table, then spray baste it and work on the other side. Not so bad, I have had practice in doing this with no wrinkles on the back.

2. Quilt it – since I am not a great quilter the easiest thing for me to do is stich-n-the-ditch. A lot of ditch stitching, no problem there either, lot of practice and very good at it. Since I have this 4 inch board on the quilt, I could not let it just flop around so I decided to just stitch straight lines on the boarder.

3. Since my sewing room is too small for anything this big to quilt, had to move the sewing machine to the dinning room table.

I thought I was doing a great job on this, but when I thought it was time to quite for the night, I discovered that I had sewed part of the batting to the back of the quilt. DARN IT. Had to rip out the stitches and just but the darn thing away until I come home from work to work on it again.

4. My last woe will be squaring up the quilt, not a problem, or will it be. I hope not. The easiest part of all this is when I sew on the binding, which I love to do and just sit back and finish it by hand sewing the binding. I hope to be finish this quilt by the weekend and give it to the ladies at the church on Sunday.

This will be my first finish for 2014 on a 2012 unfinished project. YAH!!!! Then I will pull out another unfinished long a go quilt to finish and the WOES will start again.

Quilt Show

I am just taken the time to let you know how the Mid-Atlantic Quilt show was. There was really nothing new out there put fabric and I stayed away from that as much as possible I only brought this one piece for the boarder to the signature quilt I have been working on.

This is a 1 yard piece purple and gold which looks great on the quilt. I will let you see the quilt after I have finished it, and a story about butting this quilt together.

Other items that I purchased was small, saved a lot of money on this trip. Weave Bag pattern and the craf-tex that you use with it and these little things that you put on the end of you phones, camera or what ever (I might be give one or two away on my next giveaway. And this marking pencils that iron away.
