Bias Tape–A Wonder

 

I know that most of you out there have used bias tape for sewing, especially if you were/are a garment sewer.  Well I have not really used it for anything.

As I mention on my last post, I was making pillow case dresses for a lady who will be going to Haiti in August.  I have never made one so I looked it up on YouTube (what can you not find on YouTube).  Where you cut out the arms, most of the videos have you folding under the arm curve.  Well I am a terrible folder especially around curves, this was making me very frustrated.  Then I saw a video using double fold bias tape.  My world has open up to using this tape for many a project.  I would never use it for a quilt, but for mini projects like mug rugs would be great to use it for.

Here are two of the dress I made.  Not great photo’s , I don’t have any little girls to try them on and not the right hanger.  I am just lazy.

 

I used fabric that I had in my stash, you only need about 1/2 yard or use a pillow case.  I will have some better pictures this weekend, because some of the girls in the Bee also made some from pillow cases.  Can’t wait to see how they turned out.  I even use a French seam.  I have used this seam only once when making a pillow case, put now I really understand how to use it.  An old dog learning a old sewing technique.

What Have I been Up To?

Where have I been?  Trying to cool off.  The heat index has been in the 100’s and I have been sweating it out.  I am not complaining since it seem we were never going to see the end of winter.  Mother Nature is still give us hell, but we just have to suck it up and be happy.

I have been off and on sick with sinus problems which ends up with sore throat and fever and then congestion.  But I have been out with the girls.  Just a week ago some of the girls went down over night to Chesapeake Resort to celebrate Charlene’s sisters 80th birthday.  It was an all white affair.  from lift to right is Gwen, Nadine, Pat, Charlene and me. The birthday girl on the bottom, June looks great to be 80.

 

Last Saturday, Linda (Eat, Sleep, Quilt) and I took a nice drive down to Charles Town Races and Slots, no pictures, too busy winning on the penny slots.  

This Saturday, I final had time to go to a Guild meeting.  UHURU Guild is a great place to interact with like minded women, who take quilting to an all time high.  There is nothing like going to a Guild meeting and getting your creative juices back to working again.  Because mines have been baking in the oven, and still have not come out of the pan.

I did take pictures of show-n-tell, but you know me, I always forget to charge up the camera, so did not get many pictures of some great quilts shown.

Now I am not just sitting around doing nothing.  O.K. I am, most of the week, but I have been working on some projects.  One is pillow case dresses.  I should be finishing them next week and show them off to you.

As you also know I bowl on Friday Nights on a Summer Fun League.  Last night was 70’s night and you come dress up in you 70’s get up.  No, I did not dress for the occasion but some of my friends did.

After getting home from the Guild meeting, I was inspired to work on something.  Then I got a call from my mom, who wanted be to go shopping for her.  Well after hitting the crowded store in this heat, it just cut my enthusiasm for quilting out the window.  An for some reason this song kept playing in my head.  Cruel Summer by Bananarama.  Hope you enjoy it.

Stamp On It–My Time To Mail

WOW!!!! It is time for me to show my stamp, but before I do that I would like to thank Madame Samm of Sew We Quilt, who's always there to create exciting hops for all of us to get our creativity on and a big thank you to Thearica from Pig Tales and Quilts who’s cheering us on a keeping us in line.

Now as I was thinking about what kind of stamp I wanted to make I thought about me.

This would be a great stamp, don’t you think?  But this is not the stamp I made for the hop.

I was born and raised in the Nation Capital, Washington, D.C., so I wanted to put a little me in the stamp along with a little of D.C.

I found this great turtle with a cup of coffee, that I could not pass by since I am a collator of turtles and if you are new to my blog it is my symbol, my totem, my talisman, THE TURTLE.  I am slow when it come to getting quilting done, and as you know Congress is slow in everything they do.   I embroider my turtle on a pink star fabric the pink reminded me of the cherry blossoms  in the spring and the stars are so patriotic since we are only days away from the 4th of July.  I also drew out the Capital and that is a little quilt.  I think this stamp represent me just fine, don’t you?

Sorry we are having rainy weather, and I have been get home to late to get any good outside pictures.  Now it is time for you to visit the other ladies on this hop, who I know will have some great work of art to show you on stamp making.  Here is the list.
