Wash, Iron and Sew–It’s Snowing

It has been awhile since my last post, but you already know this.  I am just trying to get my thoughts and projects together for this year.  I have a lot of UFOs to finish (who doesn’t) and things friends have ask me to make or do.  You have already made your list of things to finish (not into lists), or already hopping along with Blog Hops, or already started that new quilt.

My goal for the year is to grab whatever I have not quilted and send it out to be quilted.  OH YAH, I don’t have any money for that.  I might have a few bucks that I might be able to get a least two quilts done.  The rest I might have to go with stitch-n-the-ditch or I think I can do some echo stitching (that's not to hard).

I love making tops, put the quilting is beyond my expertNew Piecing and Quilting Pattern!ices, so I will be following Leah Day on her Building Blocks Lessons on quilting. This will give me some things to work on while I am finish up those UFOs.

Now, I must confess,  I DO NOT WASH MY FABRICS.  Is that the fabrics police at the door?  I know, I know, that you should wash your fabric, but it’s so hard to wash 2 or 3 yards of fabric and then have to iron it.  Should I cut it into segments and loose some of it?  What do you do?

You have this long piece of fabric that you have to starch until it is stiff again before you can cut it.  Then fold it for cutting, oh the pain of it all, my arms are not long enough to get those edges straight.

I might complain about this most scared of duties, put I did it anyway today.  I washed 10 yards of fabric (four  2” pieces and iron (not press) them to a good stiff, cutting ready fabric, all while watching t.v. and cooking dinner.  While the fabric was washing, I took the time to cut up my 10” squares of batting and some fabric I had wash about 2 years ago (could have been longer) that I will be using for backing, a really scrappy backing of different fabrics.  I do not plan to use my good KONA or HUFFMAN fabrics for this project.  I ran over to Walmarks  to pick up some passable cotton fabric for the top.  I wanted to use black and red, but I only found black and blue.  It will work, since it is the colors Leah is using.  Hopefully tomorrow, if I do not have to go to work, I can start on the first block.

Yah!!  We got snow today, about 3 1/2” so far looking at about 7” at the most, temperature dropping to around 24 degrees .  So they closed the government with teleworking as a option.

I was already off for today, put looking forward to not having to work tomorrow, but will telework from home.  I know this is not much snow for some of you who live in the snow belt, but it is a lot for us here (D.C., Maryland and VA).

Well, I guess I better get back to ironing the other 6 years of fabric, so I will be ready to cut tomorrow.  Keep warm, keep quilting and have fun.

No Work Friday????

image

I got my wish and did not have to go into work this morning, the weather was not too bad, put when I looked out my window this morning two song lyrics came to mine, “Slip Sliding Away” and “Baby It’s Cold Outside”.  I jumped back in the bed for a couple of more hours of sleep.

Since we Government workers had the option to use annual leave or telework, I went for the telework.  So as I was “teleworking”, I also had time to read some blogs, leave comments, printout projects, and clean my sewing room (which I am still doing).  I can see my sewing table and most of the floor.  Even the cutting table is almost finish so I can start cutting up some fabric, YAH!!!!!!

I am in the process of cleaning the basement, and setting up shelves to hold all my fabric, and you know what that means?  I will be going out to buy more binds.  I think I am cornering the market on binds, I buy one or two every month.  With the cats around, they always seem to want to lay on my fabric.  I can’t blame them, I would like to roll around in it myself, but they leave cat hair on everything.

I have been wanting to ask this question for sometime.  Those of you who own cats how do you handle the cat hair problem, the furniture, the fabric, the floor? O.K. the floor I can sweep or vacuum, along with the furniture, but it is driving Tom crazy when is clothes, especial black has cat hair on it.  I think it is Ms. Jay’s hair not Louie.

Anyway,  I have not joined any blog hops, but will be cheering on everyone who have.  I have not made any New Year Resolutions that I know I will not keep.  I will try to finish up 2012-2013 projects but still add new ones to 2014.  I promise to blog often and comment on other peoples blogs, just to let them know I have been there.  So please let me know that you are still with me and leave a comment that I am one of your favorite blogs.

Happy Quilter for the Bind Quilter (The Slow Quilter) Felicia

P.S.  I am still playing around with the color of my blog, Linda (eat, sleep, quilt) side that she need not like the white lettering it was hard to read so I have change the color to black.  Let me know if that is better and my back ground color is purple.

Snow, Blog Hops and Things to Come

SAM_2936

We got snow in D.C. today, but it wont last long.  By tomorrow evening it will all be gone from any rain we might get.  We did not have a hard winter like most of you, and I don’t think we will get as bad, we will see.

I change the face of my blog a little, if you did not see it earlier today it was blue and one of my followers Joyce Carter told me it was a little hard on the eyes, so I have made a color change.  How is it now Joyce?  You can also comment on the color.  Like I said I am not much on this designing thing just going with the flow.

My really big finish for 2013 was this t-shirt quilt for my aunt.  I finished it with binding and sleeve and was able to give it to her just before Thanksgiving.

Sew we quilt

January is starting off with a bang of Blog Hops and the first one is Wake up to KONA starting next Tuesday.  I am looking forward to seeing this Hop.  I have been collecting KONA solids since around April from Sew-Sisters Quilt Shop were I joined the KONA Club and have been getting 4 - 1/2 yards of great color solids.

The colors are so rich and luscious, you just wont to dive right into them.  I miss joining this Hop, but I will be cheering them on and getting ideas on using my stash of KONA Solids.

Check out my side bar for all the upcoming Blog Hops for Jan – Feb. and don’t forget to tag-a-long and cheer everyone on.

Time to go and hit the bed, have to work in the morning, on less they close the Government tomorrow because of the weather or let us telework from home.  I am hoping for teleworking from home so I can finish cleaning my sewing room.

Let me know what you think of the new blog look, or just say “Hi I am still following you”.

HAPPY NEW YEAR–A NEW BEGINNING

clip_image002

It is time for new beginning, new quilts, more fabrics, and blog hops.  I can not wait for the fun to begin.  I will not bore you with what I have finish in 2013, because it was not much.  I will not give you a list of things I plan to finish, because as slow as I am I might not finish it since I am still trying to finish up 2012 stuff.  All I can tell you I am here willing and able to quilt what ever comes my way.  I hope to have you laughing with me and at me, as I am sure I have stories to tell you.

As you can see I am back writing my blog after 12:00.  I was have some computer problems with my blog (which really needs a face left.  As you can see I have change the color.  If you think it is too blue let me know.  I am not a web master and can not afford to pay anyone to up left the face of my blog so this is what you get for now.  Put I can change the color and face with what I have to work with.  Looking forward to your comment on this.

I know most of you had a kick out of my Christmas decoration problems in 2012, Tom did not decorate the door this year and I did very little, tomorrow I will show you my tree before I take it down and why I went with the look.  I am digging out my sewing room from everything I dumped in it over the holiday and trying to see what is all back in that little room.  Some changes will be make in the coming months.

Now I am just rambling, so HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL OF YOU,  MAY YOUR SEAMS BE STRIGHT, AND YOUR SEAM RIPPER BE HANDY, AND THE NEW YEAR WILL BRING YOU MORE FABRIC TO HORD.
