Kona Solids In The House

 

Look at me, 3 back to back blogs in a row.  I am on a roll.  Anyway,  sometime last year, I joined the Kona Solids Club over a Sew Sisters.  Each month I would receive four 1/2 yards of colorful Kona solids to build up my stash.  These colors are great and this is just a sample of what I have in the stash now.

The reason for me to start collecting these solids (other then I needed, or is that wanted) some solids in my stash, is that I wanted to get into the modern quilt craze.   This is the first time that I will have to cut into my wonderful – colorful solids.

Below are the colors that I have chosen for my next quilt for the “See You In September” blog hop.  Which you will have to wait and see in September.

I found a very simple pattern from one of the millions of quilt magazines I have around the house.  I will let you know which magazine and the creature of the pattern during the hop.  Are you sitting on the edge of sit.  The great thing about this quilt will be that I will be quilting it myself.  Yes, it will not be a stitch-n-ditch but a straight line quilting (even I can do that).

I have already cut out the pieces I need for each of the 9 (you only see 8) fabrics and laid it out with the background fabric.  I only need to cut out the backing, batting and binding.  I should finish this quilt by Saturday (I bowl on Friday nights, so no sewing for me).

Fall Blog Hops

 

The Hops are coming the Hops are coming.  I know there have been a lot of hops on the blogs during these hot summer months, but with everything going on this summer I have not had a chance to join of even read any of the blogs.  BUT…… I was able to get in on two exciting blogs.

Madam Samm of Sew We Quilt is at it again with two new hops for the fall and many more to come.  SEE YOU IN SEPTEMBER is one of the first, with Shair of Living With Purpose cheering us on. 

We have to show 3 projects anything we want quilts, knitting, paintings, just anything.  The third project we have to use RBD Gingham.  For more details click on the See you in September button on my sidebar.

Save the Gingham, people. Grab the button.   I have never used gingham, and I know I do not have any in the house, but I do remember it, I think when I was a little girl that I might have had a dress or two or even a pair of shorts.  I just got my gingham fabric in the other day.  Check it out.

Not sure what I plan to make with the layer cake and that small roll, put when I get to it I will.  One project is already at the quilters.  My second project I cut out last night and when I get home from work, I will start putting it together.  It will be a easy simple quilt.

The next blog hop is Rush Hour.  Cheering us on this will be Carol of Just Let Me Quilt.  STUDIO E has some great fabric.  Not all that easy to find, put I did get my hands on one of the prints, with the other coming soon I hope.  The fabric is not really needed, but I would love to get my hands on it anyway.  Here is what I got in the mail already.

I am always rushing around from one place to another.  It will be interesting to see what I will do with this fabric.  The colors that can be used is red, white, black and/or gray.  I am thing bag here.  Can’t wait for the other fabric to arrive.

You have to love a hop, there is so many interesting things to see, and how about those give a ways.  I know I will be digging deep in my stash (not really)  I have already got some great things to give away during both hops.  So please click on the buttons on the side to see the other Studio E fabrics in this line, and get the info on the hops.

Well, I have to rush off now for my JOB, need to get paid so I can buy more fabric.  With the cost of fabric these days, I might be using some of my old clothes like they use to do in the old days.  Or you might see me pan handling on the street or the blog.  Watch out if you hang your clothes outside to dry, that dress might be in one of my quilts.

As The World Turns or General Hospital

The last couple of weeks to me have been like a soap opera.  My world is turning upside down, and most of it is in the hospital.  As most of you know Tom's father passed and the funeral was just a couple of weeks ago.  Tom's mother had a stroke the following week.  She is still in the hospital doing as well as expected, but not able to talk words or understand commands.  She will be going into therapy hopefully this week.

Last Thursday, my stepmother (mother always) took a fall and my father was very upset that he was not able to catch her.  She was sent to the hospital, put she is doing fine also.  Her blood presser was up, but she is taken it easy.

Friday after I got home from work, Tom came in and said he needed me to take him to the emergency room, he was having chest pains.  I tried not to worry, so I dropped him off and went bowling.  I got worry by everything going on, I might in up in the hospital next.  By the time I finish bowling, I went back to the hospital to check on him.  Now I dropped him off around 6:00 pm, I got back to the hospital about 11:30 pm.  They decided to keep him for observation about 2:30 am, I am about to fall over dead tired.

Tom is also doing well, changes to one or two of the medications were needed, he is off sitting with his mother in the hospital.  He came home Sunday and I was able to finish one of my quilts for a blog hop. 

Yesterday (Monday), Charlene and I went to take the quilt to Tomorrow Treasure, so I could have it quilted.  I hope to get it back before hop begins.

And finally, I will be a grandmother again.  Shonta told me she is expecting in February.  If it is a girl, I will be very happy.  If it is a boy, I will deal.  This will be her third child,she has two boys 12 years apart.  Shonta and Darnell are 12 years apart.  Did she not get the memo to stop producing?   Oh well happy days are coming and being a grandma, I will be using everything I have in the sewing room for blankets for the new arrival.  I guess the new one will get the one I started for the other grandchild 5 years ago.   Hey what can I say, I am SLOW.
